چکیده

High performance scientific data analysis is plagued by chronically inadequate I/O performance. The situation is aggravated by ever improving processor performance. For high performance multicomputers, such as the Touchstone Delta that possess in excess of 500, 60 megaflops, processor I/O will be the bottleneck for many scientific applications. This report describes ELFS (an ExtensibLe File System). ELFS attacks the problems of 1) providing high bandwidth and low latency I/O to applications programs on high performance architectures, 2) reducing the cognitive burden faced by applications programmers when they attempt to optimize their I/O operations to fit existing file system models, and 3) seamlessly managing the proliferation of data formats and architectural differences. The ELFS solution consists of language and run-time system support that permits the specification of a hierarchy of file classes.

Optimizing Remote File Access for Parallel and Distributed Network Applications

This paper presents a paradigm for remote file access called Smart File Objects (SFOs). The SFO is a realization of the ELFS (Extensible File Systems) concept of files as typed objects, but applied to wide-area networks [9]. The SFO is an object-oriented application-specific file access paradigm designed to address the bottleneck imposed by high latency, low bandwidth, unpredictable, and unreli...

Hunting ELFs: An investigation into Android malware detection

In the depths of Android mobile applications all over the world, malicious ELFs are lying dormant and hidden, awaiting activation by the malware that controls them. But fear not! Though they may lie in secret, for those who would hunt them these ELFs leave a trail that can be followed. This is the story of the hunt and how these ELFs came to reveal themselves.a aThis article is published online...

Text Search in an NFS-Proxy: A Case Study in Extensible File Systems

This paper describes the design of an extensible 3-tiered semantic file system, backed by an existing extensible object-relational database. The system is designed to export the standard NFS interface, while providing indexing and query support for user-defined file types using the virtual directory abstraction. To illustrate the feasibility of the proposed architecture, we describe its impleme...

Integrating of File Systems and Multidatabase Systems Based on Xml

Integration between file systems and multidatabase systems is a necessary approach to support data sharing from distributed and heterogeneous data sources. Based on analyzing the problem about integration between file systems and multidatabase systems, the paper proposes use XML (eXtensible Markup Language) to integrating file systems into multidatabase systems. A common data model named XIDM, ...

An Object-Oriented Model for Extensible Concurrent Systems: The Composition-Filters Approach

Applying the object-oriented paradigm for the development of large and complex software systems offers several advantages, of which increased extensibility and reusability are the most prominent ones. The object-oriented model is also quite suitable for modeling concurrent systems. However, it appears that extensibility and reusability of concurrent applications is far from trivial. The problem...
